MEDICAL AI with ChatGPT

The field of medicine is constantly evolving, and the latest development involves artificial intelligence (AI) assistants like ChatGPT. A recent study published in JAMA Internal Medicine led by Dr. John W. Ayers from the Qualcomm Institute within the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) reveals the potential of AI assistants in the healthcare industry. The study compared written responses from physicians and those generated by ChatGPT to real-world health questions, and the results were eye-opening.

The study found that ChatGPT's responses were preferred by a panel of licensed healthcare professionals 79% of the time, and were rated as higher quality and more empathetic. The opportunities for improving healthcare with AI are immense, says Ayers, who is also the vice chief of innovation in the UCSD School of Medicine Division of Infectious Disease and Global Public Health. According to Ayers, AI-augmented care is the future of medicine.

However, the study also notes that directly answering patient questions accurately and empathetically is a different ballgame. While ChatGPT might be able to pass a medical licensing exam, it needs to be able to respond accurately to questions patients send to their doctors to be integrated into health systems and improve physician responses to patient queries.

To test ChatGPT's capabilities, the research team turned to social media to obtain a large and diverse sample of healthcare questions and physician answers that did not contain identifiable personal information. They randomly sampled 195 exchanges from Reddit's AskDocs where a verified physician responded to a public question, and provided the original question to ChatGPT to author a response. A panel of three licensed healthcare professionals assessed each question and the corresponding responses and compared responses based on information quality and empathy, noting which one they preferred.

The panel of healthcare professional evaluators preferred ChatGPT responses to physician responses 79% of the time. ChatGPT's responses were rated significantly higher in quality than physician responses and were more empathic. The study suggests that tools like ChatGPT can efficiently draft high quality, personalized medical advice for review by clinicians.

The study highlights that AI assistants like ChatGPT can potentially solve real-world healthcare delivery problems, and could impact patient health and physician performance. However, it is crucial to integrate AI assistants into healthcare messaging in the context of a randomized controlled trial to assess the impact of using AI assistants on outcomes for both physicians and patients.

Overall, the study suggests that a physician harnessing ChatGPT is the answer for better and empathetic care, and AI assistants can revolutionize the healthcare industry.

Google Home app latest update creates fluster

 Google has started updating its devices and apps following the announcement of changes to Speaker Groups and Assistant device setup. The latest version of the Google Home app no longer lets you use a phone's physical volume button when playing videos. 

The company on Thursday unveiled a new feature that will prevent you from changing the Speaker Group volume using your phone's physical volume button. Though that change has not yet been applied to Cast controls integrated into the system volume panel, it has now been removed with version 2.47.79.5 of Google Home for Android.

In the Home app, a green shortcut for Media can be found at the top or you can click a notification to open the Media screen. Previously, you could adjust output either on a single or multiple speakers using your Android device's volume rocker.

With the update to Google Home for Android released late Friday evening, you can no longer click the rocker to select your speaker's output - now you must use each speaker's virtual slider within the Home app.

This latest change makes it difficult to quickly control music started by someone else in your house. Currently, there is no difference when adjusting the volume of audio that is started directly on your phone. 

In addition, the "Group volume" slider still appears in the "Now playing" screen on the Nest Hub. It appears that Google Home 2.47.79.5 for Android will be available to most Android 11 and 12 devices in the coming days.

Cheapest smartphone Freedom 251 launched in India for Rs 251

Considered a luxury not too long ago, smartphones have reached a point that they can now be considered a commodity. But from today, things will reach a whole new level.

As part of its attempt to connect every Indian, local smartphone manufacturer Ringing Bells 'with immense support' from the India government will launch an affordable smartphone called the Freedom 251 today.



The smartphone with a 4-inch WVGA resolution display, features a 1.3 Ghz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB total storage space and a 3.2 megapixel camera on the back. It will have 0.3 megapixel camera on the front and has a 1450 mAh battery.

Bookings for the Freedom 251 will start from Thursday 18 February from 6.00 am in the morning and will close on 21 February at 8.00 pm. This is dual-SIM 3G capable phone.

Ringing Bells says that the smartphone is in line with India Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to connect every Indian and enrich their lives. The company also asserts that its smartphone is built to meet the goals of Make In India, the government's project to entice multinational as well as domestic players to manufacturer their products in India.

Last year, DataWind had announced that it is teaming up with Anil Ambani-owned Reliance Communications (RCOM) to launch the world’s most affordable smartphone, priced at Rs 999. The phone is yet to hit the market.

The purpose behind the Freedom 251 reminds us of Aakash tablet, also known as Datawind Ubislate 7+, which was promoted by the Indian government to provide college students with affordable computing and Internet-browsing machines. The tablet was launched in India in 2011, and was sold at a price point of under Rs. 3,000. The project, before closing last year, further decreased the price of the device and it was being made available to students across the country at a price of under Rs. 2,500.

With the app, you can take a snap of anyone wearing any dress, and that app will try to locate a similar dress for you.

This feature has been designed exclusively for Flipkart’s fashion category, with the goal to provide users a real-world like shopping experience. This feature allows to shop the visually similar images from the store. In addition, users can browse a range of similar products by tapping directly on the product they like on Flipkart.



This new feature aims to fundamentally change the way people shop for fashion online, by helping them find what they’re looking for, without going through the usual step-by-step navigation. With more and more users accessing Flipkart through their smartphones, the company plans to use the in-built features such as camera and bring an offline-like experience with just a few clicks.

"Finding a fashionable product online is more complex compared to other categories and varies user to user” said Flipkart’s Chief Product Officer Punit Soni.

“A lot of fashion purchase decisions are influenced by similar products seen by users. The image search feature provides a way to find similar products on Flipkart as well as reduces the search/ browsing time, making the overall product discovery and shopping experience simple."

This feature is in its beta stage of development and is available to user via an app upgrade.80% of users access Flipkart through their smartphones, statistical data says. Company is planning for more such innovative features and developments in the coming months.

Tech giants like Apple and Google have given lot of importance to Voice assistants. With the SIRI coming in, Microsoft wants to ensure that it isn’t late for the party and has given Cortana a big push in Windows 10. Cortana was showcased at Windows 10 event held at Redmond. The biggest highlight was Cortana will be coming to desktops as well. At the core, it is similar to what we saw in Windows Phone, but now Cortana is more skilled at natural language, handling your daily appointments and so on.



Improved search is the first and foremost feature of Cortana.It can look up specific Word files or Presentations. It also lets users search for contextual information. For instance, you can look for “videos from September.” It can also go beyond your computer and search for videos or docs from Microsoft’s cloud service – OneDrive.

Another key thing needless to say Cortana learns its users’ tastes and preferences, just like some other voice assistants. There’s a new feature called Notebook that keeps a tab on all the saved information. It also keeps a track of the sports scores, travel, weather and such similar information that you may be interested in. It’s in the Notebook, that you can add other things that you expect Cortana to keep a track.

Sources say Cortana is integrated with Spartan Browser, given that Google has integrated voice-search in Chrome as well. Cortana will bring predictive search into the browser. Cortana also takes dictation. Yes, you can simply dictate an email, now. You can also ask it to play music. In case you are on a page of a hotel/restaurant, it instantly pops up the menu or Maps with directions. In the search bar, it also helps with generating auto complete.

With Android 5.0 Lollipop comes a whole bunch of accessibility features for those who need to use them. While many have been carried across from previous versions of Android, there are some new things inside that will open things up to a new audience who perhaps struggled to use the platform before.

This is just the base of what's going to be on Android devices from Lollipop and up. Device makers can build upon this as they desire. But, read on to see an overview of what's what in Android 5.0.

Services

Talkback: Google Talkback will give you verbal, audio, and vibration cues by acting as a built-in screen reader. It's perfect for the visually impaired and can be activated with ease from inside the accessibility menu. For more on Google Talkback check out our complete guide here

Switch Access: A new addition for Lollipop, it allows you to configure hard buttons to perform certain tasks to enable better navigation for the visually impaired and makes a pretty powerful tool when paired up with Talkback.

System

Captions: Enables the system wide closed caption system for videos. Having been introduced in KitKat it's still possible some users haven't had chance to try it out yet. It allows videos to display captions based on the parameters decided upon here, and you can change the text size and color within set parameters.

Magnification Gestures: Magnifies the entire system UI. Activate by triple-tapping on the display inside any apps on the device, pan around using a two-finger drag and zoom in/out further using pinch-to-zoom.

Large Text: - If you just want the text bigger, everywhere, activate it here. You don't get to choose how much bigger it is, but it does exactly what it says it will. You can fine tune the text size further in the display options.

High Contrast Text: Instead of making text bigger, this will highlight items that are naturally more difficult to read for visually impaired people. White text (regardless of the background color it sits on top of) will be outlined in black and lighter colors such as grays are made black so they're easier to see.

Auto Rotate Screen: Duplicated from the Display menu. Sets the display to rotate to landscape mode whenever you need it to. However not all apps will work in landscape mode, sadly.

Speak Passwords: Exactly what it says it does. Use only if you really, really need to use it and please use it with caution even then.

Accessibility shortcut: This will allow you to quickly enable accessibility features, even while the device is locked.

Text to Speech: This allows you to choose the text-to-speech engine of your choice, where Google's is the default. Even then you've got languages galore to choose from and even the ability to pick male/female voices and the quality of sound you want to hear. Downloading a UK English female voice in high quality was around 280MB by example.

Touch and Hold Delays: For those with dexterity issues, how long you need to press and hold to complete actions could be an issue. This allows you to alter the duration required to three different settings.

Display

There are some new options for Lollipop designed to assist those with visual impairments related to color.

Color Inversion: Google currently labels this as experimental and says it may affect device performance. In any case what it does is flip the entire device color scheme to the inverse. It works across the whole system UI and inside all applications. You can quickly turn this on in the quick settings by pulling down the notification bar with two fingers, then tapping on the icon.

Color Correction: We touched on this when the first L Preview dropped, though for whatever reason Google has since reduced the number of options from 6 to 3. In any case, there are options to change the display mode based on different types of color blindness: Deuteranomaly (red-green), Protanaomaly (red-green) and Tritanomaly (blue-yellow)
