Karbonn Enters Tablet Party,Unveils New ICS Smart Tab 1

After Micromax with its Funbook ,its now Karbonn entering the Tablet world with its Smart Tab 1. The Tablet runs on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.03 operating system and will be targeted at the low-price segment of the Tablet market.

The Tablet has a 7 inch LCD (480×800 pixel resolution) multi-touch capacitive touchscreen display and runs on the Android 4.0.3 (ICS) OS. The Tablet is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and has 512MB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 8GB which can be expanded up to an additional 32GB with a microSD card.

Smart Tab 1 comes with a 2 mega pixel front facing camera for video calling that can also record videos and on the connectivity front, it has Wi-Fi, 3G (through a USB dongle) and comes with a USB 2.0 and a HDMI port. The Tablet has a 3,700 mAh battery which the company claims will provide up to 7 hours of Internet surfing, 8 hours of video and 25 hours of music playback as per some official sources. The tablet is priced at  INR 6990

One of the USP or the unique feature of the tab is its 3D G-Sensor which according to the company will provide an enhanced gaming experience. The dimension of the device is not available as of now.

As the competition is heating up these days every company worth its salt is launching a Tablet and that too with almost identical specifications. But the fact is that unlike the high-price segment where Retina displays, Quad-core processors and 8MP cameras play a key role in grabbing customer attention, it is the value-added services that become the differentiating factor for the low-priced Tablets. And Karbonn should also focus on providing these if it wants to come out as a market leader (take hint from Micromax that is offering a number of entertainment apps (like Zenga TV, Big Flix, etc) pre-loaded with its Funbook Tablet)

Company is not taking any money for the bookings right now and is likely to contact the interesting buyers after the official launch for payment or cash-on-delivery.

DataWind, which has faced much criticism for its earlier Aakash tablet which was slammed both for its poor quality and non-availability, has partnered with Yahoo and Getjar to provide applications on its newly launched tablets.

The tablets will come preloaded with Yahoo! Cricket along with the popular Yahoo! Mail app. The Yahoo! India Homepage will be the default browser on both Ubislate7+ and Ubislate7C.

DataWind has also partnered with famous third party app store Getjar, under which the later will provide apps to the UbiSlate tablet users. Notably, GetJar has a scheme called 'Gold Application Program' under which it provides some popular applications like Asphalt 6 Adrenaline of Gameloft for absolutely free to its users.

The UbiSlate7+ can be booked online from DataWind's website , while UbiSlate7C will be available towards the end of May this year.

"Aakash and UbiSlate7 are names of the same product. Aakash is the name given to the product being supplied to the Government of India and it is procuring quantities to deliver to students across India at a subsidized price. UbiSlate7 is the name for the commercial version made available for all. UbiSlate7+ is the next generation of UbiSlate7/Aakash which comes with upgraded features," DataWind has explained on its website.

The company aims to capture 10 per cent of Tablet market share in India by end of this year. It forecasts total market of  500,000 Tablets of which 50,000 will be of Datawind’s. This in a way gives way how many Tablets it can supply this year. Though the company is trying hard to fulfill( deliver orders) it is in a way unsuccessful. So if you are (still) waiting for Ubislate you have just 2 per cent chance of receiving it this year (remember 4 million outstanding orders?)!

The much awaited latest Ubuntu 12.04 nicknamed as Precise Pangolin released today and is available for download from its official website. You can also take the Guided Tour to experience what is new in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS than its previous versions. LTS releases are supported for five years which is very well ideal for Organizations who like to go for large number of deployments of Linux machines.

The desktop version of the software is the first LTS release to be equipped with the Unity user interface, which was designed to simplify the Linux experience across desktops, laptops, and netbook-style computers alike. One addition to Unity is a new head-up display, which presents you with a list of potentially useful commands when you start typing (much like the search system in Windows Vista and Windows 7). Of particular interest to business users will be support for features such as desktop virtualization (from Citrix, VMware, and Microsoft's Remote Desktop Protocol).

If you ever want to try linux operating system that has perfect Design and UI, then Ubuntu can be the best choice you can make, as it is not just stable, also got a perfect User Interface and Design to make your daily computer and internet tasks go better.

The recent release comes in three flavors,

        Ubuntu 12.04 for Desktop

        Ubuntu 12.04 for Server

        Ubuntu 12.04 for Cloud Infrastructure

The Server version of 12.04 includes OpenStack, for deploying a private cloud, and introduces Metal as a Service (MAAS), for bringing "the flexibility of cloud computing to physical server provisioning" (per a Canonical press release) to complex infrastructure projects in which Ubuntu is already a prominent fixture. Also present is an updated version of the Juju service orchestration tool, and support for the newest Intel-based servers. Ubuntu will be certified and supported on select HP ProLiant servers, as well.

You can also try Ubuntu Windows Installer to run ubuntu inside a windows computer where installing and uninstalling the os goes pretty easy. You may also upgrade from previous version of ubuntu if you have one installed in your computer.

Windows Vs Android - Is it ethical ?

Nokia has been aggressively marketing their Lumia family of Windows Phones on a massive global scale, with events sporting 4D projections, augmented reality experiences, and live music performances the manufacturer appears to have extraordinarily deep pockets for the marketing budget, something that Microsoft needs from an OEM with its new mobile platform

As well as Nokia we've seen Microsoft pushing hard with carriers and the famous Smoked by Windows Phone campaign. Following on from this successful array of stunts, Nokia has kicked off "Blown away by Lumia" in India, which hasn't gone down too well with Samsung, who is backing the Galaxy family of devices.

The advertising campaign, which is basically a spin-off of Microsoft's own 'Smoked by Windows Phone' campaign, is being run in India, with similar marketing going on in the UK as well. Basically, contestants are picked out of a crowd in public places and compete against someone using a Lumia handset to see who can complete a task first. Assuming that the Lumia beats whatever the contestant is using, the contestant gets their picture taken holding up a sign that says “My phone just got blown away by the Nokia Lumia.”

As with the Smoked by Windows Phone challenges, contestants have to try and best the Windows Phone (a Lumia handset in this case) with general smartphone tasks, such as taking a photo and uploading it to Facebook. Which ever device completes the task first wins. Should the contestant lose, they have to hold up a sign that reads: 'My phone just got blown away by the Nokia Lumia'.

Reported by Tech2.com -At one of the events in Delhi, one of the participants was asked to click a picture, tag it and upload it to Facebook. The time taken by the two devices was compared with the eventual winner in that particular incident being the Nokia Lumia phone. Well, the guy did state that the Lumia phone won and that he was using a ‘Samsung Galaxy’ phone, but that’s not it. Once he lost the mini competition, the girl along with him got pretty fed up and said that his current phone was ‘the worst piece of sh*t’.

Samsung apparently isn't happy about this, with a spokesperson from Samsung India calling the campaign “clearly unethical.”

Nokia explains the challenges were validated by Nielsen, with Nokia India Director of Marketing, Viral Oza, commenting the following on the accusations of unethical campaigning. According to the ironically named Viral Oza, a Marketing Director at Nokia India, “the Lumia 800 emerged as a clear winner by winning 94% of the total 104 challenges timed by Nielsen. This challenge,” he added, “has not been created to target competition but to highlight the social media capabilities of the device.”

Microsoft's own Smoked by Windows Phone campaign garnered some criticism of its own after a contestant threatened legal action because Microsoft award him a promised $1,000 PC after his iPhone 'smoked' a Windows Phone. And just for the record, Samsung pulled a similar stunt of their own with the Samsung Street Challenge, so they really don't have much room to complain.

Mobile phone analysts feel Nokia's strategy to compare Lumia with competitive brands is a smart move since the company has been losing share in the segment."At the top-end of the smartphone segment, Indian consumers are showing bigger affinity for Samsung, BlackBerry or Apple rather than Nokia,That way, Nokia's campaign for Lumia 800 can help them since its comparing with competitors in social networking and internet capabilities which are the most important factors for younger consumers while choosing a handset",says Rahul Gupta ,Senior manager strategies at Mobile tech Research firm. But is it ethical on part of Nokia ? Debatable....Right ?
