Aakash upgraded Tablets UbiSlate 7+,UbiSlate 7C launched
Amidst lot of negative publicity Datawind finally announced the launch of its new upgraded UbiSlate 7+ and UbiSlate 7c priced at 3000 & Rs. 4000 respectively. The upgraded version of the much touted low cost Tablet Aakash launched on April 26, around three months behind schedule (earlier, it was supposed to be launched in the last week of January. More on that here.
Both come with 4GB of internal flash memory compared to 2GB in the UbiSlate 7+, and the 7c has a capacitive touchscreen while the 7+ has a resistive screen.
Both the 7-inch tablets are powered by Cortex A8 800 Mhz processor, 256MB RAM and have an 800x480 pixel touchscreen. Datawind claims that the 3200 mAh battery will deliver upto 180 minutes of usage. The tablets run on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).
The tablets will come preloaded with Yahoo! Cricket along with the popular Yahoo! Mail app. The Yahoo! India Homepage will be the default browser on both Ubislate7+ and Ubislate7C.
DataWind has also partnered with famous third party app store Getjar, under which the later will provide apps to the UbiSlate tablet users. Notably, GetJar has a scheme called 'Gold Application Program' under which it provides some popular applications like Asphalt 6 Adrenaline of Gameloft for absolutely free to its users.
The UbiSlate7+ can be booked online from DataWind's website , while UbiSlate7C will be available towards the end of May this year.
"Aakash and UbiSlate7 are names of the same product. Aakash is the name given to the product being supplied to the Government of India and it is procuring quantities to deliver to students across India at a subsidized price. UbiSlate7 is the name for the commercial version made available for all. UbiSlate7+ is the next generation of UbiSlate7/Aakash which comes with upgraded features," DataWind has explained on its website.
The company aims to capture 10 per cent of Tablet market share in India by end of this year. It forecasts total market of 500,000 Tablets of which 50,000 will be of Datawind’s. This in a way gives way how many Tablets it can supply this year. Though the company is trying hard to fulfill( deliver orders) it is in a way unsuccessful. So if you are (still) waiting for Ubislate you have just 2 per cent chance of receiving it this year (remember 4 million outstanding orders?)!
